ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va -- Some special needs students hit the track as they participated in one of the races of the Special Olympics. Along with racing, they also competed in other events, like softball throw.

Hyum Weiler, a Spotswood High School student, organized the event as part of his Eagle Scout project.

"Well, I've spent a lot of time with the special needs students at Spotswood and I got to know them and they're just a lot of fun to hang out with, and I needed some type of project where I could show leadership and something that would impact the community," said Hyum.

He said the schools are now looking into making this an annual event. Special needs students from all the Rockingham County High Schools came to Spotswood High School for the Special Olympics.
