WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) With the holiday season nearing, more and more retailers are looking to hire.
"We're continually doing interviews and doing orientations all throughout the week, so we're doing a quick turn around for people," said Sean Skally, who is a Executive Team Lead at a Target in Waynesboro.
Skally says his store is looking to hire close to 40 people this season.
"Sales floor team members to meet and greet the guests, cashiers, so we're looking for a little bit of everything right now," said Skally.
Staffing is very important this holiday season, considering some retailers are opening earlier than usual for Black Friday, which is making competition a major factor.
Just this week, Kmart announced it will open for 41 hours, starting at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving day. While retailers like Sears and Kohl's will open at 8 p.m.
Not all customers are excited for stores to open earlier than usual for Black Friday.
"Not a fan, I like to spend more time with my family and I think it takes away from the values of home," said Valeri Sparks who was shopping in Target on Thursday.
Skally says we will not know what time Target will open its doors until Black Friday gets closer and it's all apart of the company's strategy.
"We don't normally release what time we're opening, until we actually do the scheduling for that week," said Skally.
Even though Thanksgiving is the closest holiday, Target is already gearing up for Christmas in its stores.
A Target associate says most of the hiring in the valley will be done in Waynesboro, Harrisonburg and Charlottesville.
