Young woman cooking healthy food with lots of vegetables
WEYERS CAVE, Va -- Students at Blue Ridge Community College are doing their part to fight hunger during a week-long effort. Tuesday they held a hunger symposium.
A panel of speakers talked about why food banks need your help. Experts said people have needed more help getting food since the economy tanked in 2008. They said they are seeing more middle class people needing help.
One student wants to help those who live with hunger every day.
“I want to understand how to help others better,” said Danielle Waits, a student at BRCC. “I always participate in the canned food drives, but it kind of updates me on how the world is doing with hunger.”
BRCC has several other events this week including a simulation, a hunger walk and a fundraising dinner.
