VERONA -- With the announced expansion of the Verona branch of McQuay International, millions of dollars are expected to come into the Valley economy.

The company plans to use the Verona building as a test market. It is investing more than $9 million and hiring 50 employees for the facility.

Dennis Burnett, Augusta County's economic development director, said he's expecting those new employees to earn upwards of $4.5 million, which will be spent throughout the Valley.

Those positions also help to sustain the facility, protecting the 400 employees already there.

“That's good for consumers. It assists with home sales. It assists with automobile sales. It puts more money in our grocers' pockets. All and all, you're looking at just the payroll impact,” said Burnett.

Beyond that, the expansion is expected to result in increases to the county's tax and tourism revenues. An additional 20 jobs could also be added to assist with the extra workload.
