STAUNTON, Va. -- A new service at the Staunton library is called “freading” and it's the newest way to borrow books.
Right now, the service offers more than 20,000 books and each book is worth a number of tokens. Members of the library get five tokens a week to spend on everything from children's books to bestsellers.
Staff at the library expects use of service to pick up after next week.
“E-readers were definitely popular gifts last year and we expect them to be popular gifts again this year. They're great. They make books available and library resources available 24-7, no matter where you are,” said Melissa Davidson, a librarian.
Freading works differently than the other system the library uses, called Overdrive. A book can be borrowed by as many people that want to read it, with no waiting list.
