HARRISONBURG -- Workers at TSSI packed up dozens of safety kits to send to law enforcement in Tucson, Ariz. Tom Little, the project manager, said about 75 individual trauma kits were used in the shooting that left Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and many others injured in Arizona. That isn't the only situation for which the kits are useful.

"It could be anything from a fire, an explosion, a train accident, a building collapse, just anything where there would be a large number of casualties and they wanted to be able to treat them out of a single kit," said Little.

A single kit with loads of equipment inside helps people suffering from life-threatening injuries. After many recent tragedies, Little said the international demand for these kits increased.

TSSI originally made trauma kits for people in the military, but now, it's starting a new kit for civilians as the need grows.

"And some of the components we changed because we wanted to average guy to be able to use the equipment to treat somebody as oppose to a school trained medic in the Army."

Little used these kits when he was in the Marines and he said he saw the kits save lives.

Tears filled his eyes because he said it's unfortunate that there's a growing need for the kits. Little said you can't prevent tragedies from happening, but he's glad his company is working to help people when they do.

Little said TSSI brought trauma kits to help with the casualties after 9-11, Hurricane Katrina, the earthquake in Haiti and many others. Right now, TSSI employees are working on sending kits to a major cruise line.
