Local Website Wins Award

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- A website made in the Valley has won a BEA Festival of Media Arts award.

Since winning the award, the message of the website, the Valley Immigration Stories Project, is now reaching the entire country.

The site tells the stories of immigrants in the Valley.

Shaun Wright helped create the website and has been working on the site for the past seven months.

He said its designed to put a human face to the issue of immigration.

Wright wants to show why these people have come to the Valley and the difficulties they face on a daily basis.

"Sometimes we just hear soundbites and we don't really connect with a person who is being impacted by it. When we don't have that human connection, we can desensitize to these things," said Wright.

The website also includes statistics and history on immigration in the Valley.
