The Chamber of Commerce's leadership program is lending a helping hand to the Mercy House.
The Community Leadership Program through the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce picked a community project before they completed the program.
They chose to help renovate some apartments for some new residents. Renovations include painting walls and replacing floors and counters.
One of the program volunteers, Stacy Farley, says, "These apartments are something that there is a lot of turnover, turnover about every six months. Hopefully each individual apartment won't just affect one life or one family, it'll affect multiple families. You know, as long as there's upkeep going on then hopefully it'll help multiple families in the long term."
The leadership class wanted a project where they could see their work helping people.
Twila Lee, the Executive Director of Mercy House, says "We have a person who is going to be moving into this apartment that's been finished and she said, Oh, I didn't expect anything this nice, so, yeah they're really going to notice. It's going to be a huge difference for them."
