Young woman cooking healthy food with lots of vegetables
HARRISONBURG -- Emeritus Senior Living Community is delivering food to seniors in the area as part of a nationwide campaign to deliver 10,000 nutritious meals in two months.
"It's something the company has taken upon themselves to go that extra mile for those people who need a little extra help," said Todd Hassett, a chef from Emeritus, "This is just an opportunity to make sure that not only the seniors in our community are taken care of, but the seniors in the community around us."
Hassett said he loves seeing people's reactions when he brings them meals.
"The best part is when I hear someone say, 'Wow this is really good.' It may be that they've had nutritious meals all along and it may be the first one they've had for awhile, but to know that what we brought them. They are enjoying the meal, they're getting the nutrition they need. That's the best part of the whole thing.”
The best part for Betty Keller, a senior who had a meal delivered on Friday, is a little different.
"The fact that you didn't have to prepare. Many years, I prepared food for my family and now I'm on the other end and they prepare it for me," Kellers said.
