Miata Owners Go for Collective Cruise

HARRISONBURG -- Folks in Harrisonburg on Sunday went for a Sunday afternoon drive, and they all had something in common: their cars.

Drivers of nearly 20 Mazda Miatas met in Harrisonburg today before taking off westward for a three-hour cruise with the top down.

Jim Bishop, who now owns his second Miata, said he started the Miata cruise in 2009 as a way to meet fellow Miata owners and share their common interest.

"There's sort of a kinship of people who drive Miatas," Bishop said. "They're kind of an avid group. They enjoy their cars, they're fun to drive and so I said, 'It'd be fun to see who else around here drives a Miata and would like to do this."

The route took the Miata caravan west into Pendleton County, W.Va., where they stopped for ice cream and a group picture before returning to Harrisonburg.
