SUGAR GROVE, Wv -- Justin Faison works for the Navy and on Thursday, he received special recognition for some other work he does on the side. Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito thanked him for the hundreds of hours he has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity.

Faison said he enjoys it and it is a rewarding experience.

"The condition that a lot of these people live in around here, you want to do something about it and help them out you know, so it feels good to give someone who deserves something a place to live," said Faison.

Faison has already volunteered about 80 hours this year building homes for people in need. That is something that Habitat for Humanity volunteers appreciate.

"We love local volunteers,” said Brittany Means, Habitat for Humanity volunteer coordinator. “Local volunteers are incredible. People, like Faison especially, Justin is amazing. He comes out and he really not only serves as a regular construction volunteer, but more in a leadership role, which is something that we definitely need."

Faison said helping others is how he spends the weekend.

"I'm not the type of person that likes to sit around the house very much. Other than hunting season, my Saturdays are free," said Faison.

Using free time to help others is what Capito said sets a good example for this community.

"He works hard and he has talents,” said Capito. “And he said himself he has free time too and for him to take his free time to enhance somebody else's life to help to build a home for Habitat for Humanity. We wanted to say 'Way to go. Congratulations.'"

Faison described how it felt to get recognized.

"It's nice to be recognized when you feel like you've worked hard for something. It makes anybody feel worthwhile," said Faison.

Faison has also gotten a lot of the other naval workers to volunteer their time for Habitat for Humanity. He said his background in construction has made helping out pretty easy for him.
