Augusta County, Va. (WHSV) Neighbors are voicing their concerns about a home on Hodge Street that they say is affecting their health and well being.

Wednesday, at an Augusta County Board of Supervisors' meeting, there was no definite answer for them, but they say it's a step in the right direction.

"The tenant who lives in the house has more recently and consistently brought home truck loads of junk," said Scotti Troxell, who lives next door to the home.

Neighbors call the tenant, who has lived in the home for a little more than a year, a hoarder.

Neighbors are most concerned about their property value going down and also their safety.

"A neighbor who recently sold a house had to take a lot less for it because it was right next to this property," said Troxell.

"I've had to have an exterminator come and treat my home," said Monica Snyder who has lived in the neighborhood for 20 years. She thinks the rodents are coming from the home.

"It harbors all kind of bugs, disease..insects," said Troxell.

Wednesday night, the county attorney Patrick Morgan said he doesn't think that there is much that can be done in court.

"It's a mess, I agree with you and I sympathize with the neighbors, but I just do not think that a judge will determine that it's a health and safety hazard," said Morgan.

They say they aren't dropping the ball. The board of supervisors will now require the homeowner to mow the lawn regularly.

Even if it means hiring someone to do so for the homeowner and then billing them.

The homeowner's daughter is the tenant living in the home.

The board said it will continue to look into the matter. The woman who lives in the home wasn't there when our reporter stopped by and she wasn't at the meeting to defend herself.

Neighbors want to see a nuisance ordinance that will allow for the board of supervisors to step in.
