HARRISONBURG, Va -- Downtown is home to a new barbecue joint called Jon Boyz BBQ Shack. It opened earlier in November in what used to be the building for Smokin' Pig, another barbecue restaurant which closed in August. You can read that story here: Restaurant Closes after 17 Years in Harrisonburg
Jon Boyz BBQ shack hopes to bring its unique flavor to the Valley with recipes from the owner, Jon Smith, and his employees.
They expect the lunchtime crowd and catering to drive business.
You can find a variety of sides, including hush puppies and jalapeno poppers, in addition to two barbecue recipes at Jon Boyz BBQ Shack.
Smith said starting a new business is a lot of work, but it does come with some rewards.
"The compliments, the return customers who come back and say, they want that Jon Boyz sauce. We are looking into retail bottling down the road but right now we're trying to focus on keeping ourselves afloat," said Smith.
The restaurant specializes in smoked chicken, pork and beef.
