AUGUSTA COUNTY -- Augusta Health is set to open the doors to its brand new heart and vascular center. The $30-million project is a technologically advanced approach to heart care.
The new catheter lab, nuclear imaging center and much larger cardiac rehabilitation center are spread over three floors. The 67,000 square foot building is connected to the main hospital and has the benefit of all the heart doctors being centrally located.
Dr. Laura Gonzalez, a pulmonologist and newest newest addition to the staff in the cardiology department, said she is very excited for the opening on March 25th.
“I thought that this was really a diamond that just needs fastening and the fastening is occurring very nicely. I always like that. I always like to start new things and try to help the best I can,” said Dr. Gonzalez.
The national standard for door to catheterizing is 90 minutes. Right now Augusta Health averages 41 minutes, but the new facility could help further reduce that time.
