STEELES TAVERN, Va. (WHSV) -- Beginning in July, the Steeles Tavern Post Office will operate under its new schedule. Instead of being open eight hours a day from Monday through Friday, it will only be open for half that time.
The post office will open at 11 a.m. and close at 3 p.m., according to the postmaster. It's hours were cut as a way for the United States Postal Service to save money.
Many people in the town feel as tough their voices weren't heard in the public hearing. They think that there were better alternatives than what was chosen.
"I don't see how these new hours are going to help the working man and woman who need extended hours at a post office, not hours in the middle of the day. I think this post office is being set up for failure," said Julie Kane who lives in Steeles Tavern.
The postmaster also said the new hours were originally expected to go into effect in September.
