Massanutten Resort has something new to offer this winter- an outdoor ice skating rink.

On Wednesday, the resort held a soft opening for employees.

Skaters laced up and headed out for some fun.

The rink is located at LeClub Recreation Center and it's covering the tennis courts.

Kenny Hess, a spokesperson for the resort, says management has received lots of requests for a skating rink.

"We tried ice skating once about 15 years ago and the location just didn't work out very well. It was too close to the ski slopes," said Hess.

The rink measures 4,250 square-foot and it can accommodate up to 132 skaters at a time.

"The rink is quite a bit smaller than a regulation rink, so don't come out here thinking you're going to do your great big huge moves, but there's enough space to have a good time," said Terri McIntyre, an ice skating instructor.

The rink opens to the public on Friday.
