STAUNTON, Va -- Thursday night's presentation from the Office on Youth to the Staunton City Council was a numbers report. It highlighted various aspects of the programs at the Office on Youth.
Carol Blair, the director of the Office on Youth, said this report is very important to their mission.
“I think its helps the localities see the bang they're getting for their buck,” said Blair. “The three localities collectively fund 42 percent of my budget. This is our opportunity to tell them what they're paying for.”
This past year, the Office on Youth served nearly 6,000 kids throughout the Valley. They were educated with a budget of right around a $1-million, half of which came from state and local grants.
City officials also heard about a new teen pregnancy prevention grant for the first time on Thursday. The grant will put $200,000 in the budget every year for the next three years.
Thursday night was the last night Blair would address the Staunton City Council. She will retire from her position at the end of the month, after 20 years serving Valley kids.
