WAYNESBORO, Va -- An abandoned building used by an ice company in Waynesboro could be the next phase of the city's revitalization plan. It is privately owned, but could have 25 new apartments.

Th building is near a downtown park and several stores, but it may provide an opportunity for other businesses to open up on the first floor.

Waynesboro's Director of Planning Michael Barnes said it is all a part of revitalizing downtown.

“It'll bring new people downtown to shop, but it'll also prove to the development community that their is a viable residential community in downtown. Hopefully, it'll attract more new development and more new housing projects,” said Barnes.

The apartments could be ready to open in the next few years.
