STAUNTON -- Shelburne Middle School in Staunton hosted their annual Winter Blast fundraiser on Friday. While they had smiling faces with the kids, parents like Sascha Wallace is concerned with the looming sequester cuts.

"It makes me nervous because I have children in the school system, I'm here, I'm present. I want to see everyone succeed," said Wallace.

Sascha like many parents want to be involved as much as they can in tough times. Parents want to know what they can do.

"I really don't want funding to be cut. I don't think everyone really does." said Wallace.

Karen Dodson is a mother and also the President of the Parent-Teacher Association. She understands the cuts may lead to giving a little more.

"As we have had budget cuts hit the school's a chance for the parents to give back," said Dodson.

With the sequester coming into play, more and more fundraisers might have to come. More parents may have to step up.

"We may have more involved. In volunteerism," said Dodson.

Besides parents donating their time and efforts, Rockingham County Superintendent Dr. Carol Fenn knows its time to start making changes.

"Overall we anticipate a reduction of 230 thousand, a little bit less than a quarter of a million dollars from our federal revenue budget,"
said Dr. Fenn.

Superintendent Fenn said the budget cuts won't come into effect until April. Fenn said they are looking at all programs to see what they can cut.The last thing they want do is cut jobs.
