HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Part of the Stone Spring-Erickson connector opened to the public Wednesday afternoon.

A ceremony was held to officially open the road.

This is the third phase of the Erickson Avenue - Stone Spring Road Connector Project, which connects Route 42 to Route 11.

The mayor and members of the Harrisonburg City Council participated in the ribbon cutting and everyone in attendance was able to drive the length of the new road after the ceremony.

There is one more phase to complete, the section that connects Stone Spring Road to Route 33.

Mayor Ted Byrd hopes the new road helps the flow of traffic throughout the city.

The new section of the road was dedicated to HPD police officer Manuel Trenary.

Trenary was killed in the line of duty in 1959.
