STAUNTON, Va. -- Dewey Bowers is in police custody after stabbing another man in the stomach early Saturday morning.

According to police, Bowers started arguing with a neighbor who he thought stole his portable DVD player. After that fight, Bowers grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his neighbor.

Police said it's not uncommon to get a call for Bowers' apartment building. Since 2005, there have been 296 calls for service in that area. Since the beginning of 2013, police have been called to the area five times.

“The problems that we have generally are at 128 and 126 College Circle. They're two apartment buildings that are there and we just have pretty regular issues with them,” said Lisa Klein with the Staunton Police Department.

The victim is in the hospital with unknown, but not life threatening, injuries. Bowers is being held at Middle River Regional Jail with a felonious assault charge. He has numerous other convictions and is expected to sit before a grand jury at the end of the month on burglary and grand larceny charges.
