BRIDGEWATER -- Power crews are still working to turn the lights back on one night after the heavy snow stopped falling.

Repair crews from the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative have been working since early Wednesday morning.

Charles Roberts, who lives in Bridgewater, has been in and out of the dark since Tuesday night.

He and his family have been struggling to stay warm.

"We sort of camped out around the fireplace," said Roberts.

His house regained power but lost it shortly after.

"About four hours later, these fellas showed up and solved our problem," said Roberts.

Crews from SVEC have been racing around the clock to turn on power.

Some crews working with them aren't from the area. They all started early at 4 a.m.

"A day for them starts at four, it will end tonight. Late- some time after dinner and they just never really know what they will face minute to minute," said SVEC manager Mike Aulgur.

Some of the challenges they have faced have been more difficult than others, including transformer issues and tree limbs on lines. These crews are just happy with the job well done.

"It's absolutely fantastic to be a part of this team," said Aulgur. "These guys, they are hard chargers. There is not one person in our organization or the people we work with that doesn't want to get our members power restored as quickly and as safe as possible. And it feels really good to be apart of that," said Aulgur.

Crews from SVEC have only dealt with four snapped power poles so far. They said the biggest issue for them has been the getting access to the lines. Their goal is to finish most of the work Thursday evening.
