HARRISONBURG -- Two men are on a journey that will take them more than 2,500 miles across the country and they're doing it on bikes. It's all to raise awareness for pediatric cancer.

The eight week journey Navid Attayan is embarking on is called ProJekt 3000.

"The past eight months of training only goes so far. My body shuts down maybe half way. It's the mental drive and motivation. Every time I look at these bands I know how powerful it is and what I am doing it for. It's not just me. It's not just the project, it's what we're fighting for," said Attayan.

The bands on his wrist represent the number of kids he's met who have pediatric cancer.

"My drive behind this project is to show people that one voice can make a difference and one voice can amplify others to take action," he said.

In his freshmen year at James Madison University, Attayan started researching on how to fight against pediatric cancer.

One of the major roads blocks he found was the lack of funding.

"Lack of support leads to lack of funding. Lack of support is lack of awareness," he explained.

Attayan started ProJekt 3000 in September 2012.

Since then it has grown to nearly 5,000 supporters on Facebook. The project has also raised around $7,000 for cancer research.

Karen Kudrow and her family lost their daughter in 2011.

"Just for my little girl to have inspired someone to do something so huge was amazing. It was more than I could have ever imagined," Kudrow.

Kudrow said it's wonderful to see him go on the journey.

"It makes me feel great that he looks at these children and wants to help everyone of them," said Kudrow.
