ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va -- One person has died from the meningitis infection in Virginia and a few others are sick from it. This type of meningitis is not contagious.
A doctor at Rockingham Memorial Hospital said once they heard about the outbreak, they immediately took action to keep their patients safe.
"But just to be safe, we went ahead and called the pharmacy here at the hospital and they pulled everything they could find that was made by this pharmacy, which turned out to be a very few amount of medication off the shelf," said Andrew Wagner, a neuroradiologist at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Wagner said the outbreak started from steroids made in a pharmacy in New England that became contaminated. He said this is very rare to get, but also very serious.
