HARRISONBURG, Va. -- It has been a little more than a month since the new RMH Funkhouser Women's Center has opened.
The center has outpatient womens' imaging services, such as mammography and image recovery.
The Medical Director of Women's Services and Breast Surgeon Heidi Rafferty said they have seen an increase in mammography as well as image recovery services.
Dr. Rafferty said the breast care clinic has increased from three to four patients per day to five to six per day.
Those numbers are compared to the number of patients they brought in at their old Harrisonburg location off of Reservoir street.
Dr. Rafferty said the recent day of mammography drew more than 80 patients just in a day.
Dr. Rafferty also said women feel comfortable in the environment.
"Our women's center and the breast care clinic is working very hard with the pathologist and the radiologist to minimize the amount of time between uh oh I have a worry to oh no I don't have to worry, or oh dear it's cancer let me move ahead right away," said Dr. Rafferty.
The heart health care program is a new area for the women's center.
Dr. Rafferty said the systems for women and heart attacks are different than those for men, and having a place where they can educate women together makes it a more comfortable atmosphere.
