HARRISONBURG -- Governor Bob McDonnell's Transportation plan will be approved soon.
The plan says the tax on wholesale gas will go down from 17.5 cents per gallon to 3.5 cents per gallon, but the tax on diesel gas will increase by six cents per gallon.
One truck driver, who owns his transport business, said this diesel price increase will hurt him. He also said increasing his costs will increase delivery costs for customers.
"I can't afford it,” Linden Bulk Transport driver Jim Neal said. “I've been doing this for 24 years, and I keep having to stay out longer, run farther and stay away from my family more and more just to make ends meet."
The plan would raise millions of dollars to improve roads and public schools in Virginia. Some of this money will go to repair roads and bridges in the Valley.
