ROCKINGHAM COUNTY -- Rockingham County School leaders said they will put in additional safety measures to keep from students wandering off from school. A teacher at Ottobine Elementary School gave a first grader permission to leave the classroom and go to another room for a reading session. That student decided to walk out of school instead. Someone saw her and called 9-1-1.

"We will ensure all the students that are supposed to go with a reading specialist do go. In other words, we wouldn't have students, perhaps maybe some finish their work and going on their own," said Rockingham County Schools Superintendent Dr. Carol Fenn.

All of the Rockingham County Schools plan to start something similar in the coming weeks.
