ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. -- School leaders have until April 1 by Virginia law to come up with a budget.

The Rockingham County superintendent will be presenting the plan for the area. Doctor Carol Fenn is hoping employees will get paid more yearly and she said there are also increased costs for health insurance.

Fenn didn't want to go into too much detail about what she'd be presenting, however she did also mention there are needs for textbooks and things with technology.

The school board will hear her recommendations Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Montevideo Middle School.

As far as increased costs go, they expect the health insurance costs to be effective in October.

After the school board members hear the recommendations, there will be a public hearing on March 25 so people have a chance to ask what could be funded.

"An employee salary increase of some small or some amount as our employees have not experienced a salary increase for several years now. We were fortunate to receive the VRS monies required last year added to each employees' pay," Dr. Fenn said.

You have the chance to comment on those recommendations on Monday, March 25 at J. Frank Hillyard Middle School at the public hearing.

The school board will take action on the school budget on March 27. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
