SPCA Collecting Donations for the Holidays

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- With the holiday season right around the corner, the Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA is collecting donations.

Keep an eye out for the "Furr-Gotten Angel Tree."

Hanging on the trees are ornaments depicting different cats and dogs living at the shelter. The goal of this drive is to fill the bottom of the tree with items like food and toys, that can be used throughout next year. All the items you place under the tree will go to specific pets at the shelter.

Donations will be collected until November 23rd at the Valley Mall and Carrier Library at James Madison University.

Misty Watson, the Adoption Facilitator for the Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA, said kennel enrichment is a huge part of keeping the animals mentally happy.

"You can see toys and stuff in their cages, that is the kind of thing we are looking for. We would love stuffed toys for the dogs so they can play with them. We are also looking for food because that is a big expense that we have," said Watson.

Monday is also the start of the "Home for the Holidays" adoption event. All cats and dogs are available for adoption for only $25. Last year, 57 animals were adopted and this year they hope to surpass that number.
