ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. -- The Salvation Army started distributing Toy Convoy donations to needy families in the Valley on Thursday.
Bags containing coats, gifts and toys were handed out at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds. Parents who picked up the bags were thankful for the help from the community.
One mother said she was especially grateful and surprised with the amount of giving.
"I just say, thank the community for everything that they've done to help out, because the children that are in need, they'll really appreciate that they got something for Christmas," said Juanita Steiner, a Valley mom.
Some of the presents were collected all year for Thursday's event. Two-thousand children in Harrisonburg and Rockingham county will receive the gifts.
