HARRISONBURG, Va -- The sound of Salvation Army volunteers ringing a bell is probably a sound of which many people are familiar.
Salvation Army volunteers started holiday fundraising Thursday morning in Harrisonburg. They wanted to raise money for the rest of the year.
Volunteers also kicked off a turkey drive. The turkey drive organizes turkey distribution and help for families.
Duane Burleigh, a captain with the Harrisonburg Salvation Army, said they need your help this season.
“Our needs have gone up, even over last year, which was a record year. Funding has gone down,” said Burleigh. “This is an important time, because this funds us not only for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we rely on this money getting us through the rest of the 365 days of the year that we're open.”
The Salvation Army will be set up all around the Valley with kettles for donations through December.
