ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. -- A new school safety task force is working hard to keep kids safe.

The group just had their first presentation on their progress and what changes they'd like to see in schools.

Bryan Huber is the transportation director for county schools and he's also a part of the new safety task force. He said the group is looking into adding a new position that will oversee all the safety procedures at the schools.

It's also working on updating the way school leaders communicate with parents when there's an emergency and members of the group hope to add more security cameras in all schools.

Huber said after the tragedy at Sandy Hook, all schools should look at how to keep kids safe.

"The biggest thing about school safety is it's a constantly evolving process, and your crisis manuals and your procedures need to stay up with the times and they need to be updated as new information exists," said Huber.

Huber said Rockingham County schools are known for teaching the latest technology in the classroom and he hopes they can use new technology to keep schools safe.
