HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Stores in the valley are busy as people try to check off items on their shopping lists. Many stores, including Best Buy, have extended hours leading up to Christmas.

Curry Martin shopped at Best Buy on Saturday for a tablet with his daughter. Martin doesn't let the crowds hinder him from his purchase.

"Focus on what I need to get and don't worry about everybody else. It's just the lines that suck," said Martin.

Best Buy General Manager Derek Cain says this year shoppers are in a time crunch.

"Normally we have five weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year we only have four. So I think usually you always have your last minute shoppers and this year we kind of put everybody in that bucket because everybody thought that they had more time than they did," said Cain.

Newly released gaming consoles, including the XBox One, are the most popular gifts.

"You always have the fathers and the men who are like oh I'll do it until the last couple of days and then those last couple days are already here. If my wife and my employees didn't force me to go out and buy gifts a couple days ago, it would have been Christmas Eve and it [would] had been too late," said Cain.

While you may see the stores filled with people, Cain says more people are actually shopping online this year.

"Our Best Buy website has seen huge traffic growth way more than we could have possibly projected, so we're seeing people shop more economically," said Cain.

Last minute shopping can cost more, depending on timing.

"If you order online you still have to wait for the shipping and then you paying extra money for rush order," said Martin.

Best Buy will be open until midnight each day until Christmas Eve.

With two to three times the number of staff, they are prepared for a busy few days. Cain says there will be a line out the door for a new shipment of the PlayStation 4 on Sunday. Cain expects quite the crowd because shipments have been limited.
