HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- The U.S. government shutdown will have a big impact on local beer and wine production.

Without the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, local producers of bottled alcohols are not able to get their labels approved. This entire process generally takes about six months when there is a working government. Although this does not have an immediate impact, it may create a backlog that will be felt in the coming months.

"It's unfortunate that people who work all year long have to get into a bottleneck over some willingness or lack of willingness to consider everyone," said Gary Simmers, the owner of Landwrit Bottling, adding that the backed-up labeling will affect everyone from printers to bottlers, like himself. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion.
