HARRISONBURG, Va -- Getting to the polls can be difficult for senior citizens and some retirement communities in the Valley will run free shuttles throughout the day on Tuesday.
Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg has four shuttles running for election day.
Director John Dwyer understands how important it is to get his residents out to the polls.
"Senior adult issues are in the forefront, medicare, Social Security are major issues, and our residents, all senior citizens need to be active in the process. We're glad to participate in that," said Dwyer.
Dwyer said he is not seeing as much excitement this year as in the last election, but there are already 30 people signed up for the shuttle. Most residents voted early or by absentee.
Brightview Baldwin Park in Staunton is offering free shuttle rides and the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community has 40 people signed up for the bus rides.
