Staunton Gets Funds to Restore Peyton Creek

The project to restore Staunton's Peyton Creek is now officially on its way.

The city of Staunton received the full funding requested from the American Rivers/Environmental Protection Agency Potomac Highlands Implementation Grant Program.

The city asked for $209,244 in the grant program's application for “Restoring Staunton's Peyton Creek."

In addition, Staunton will receive $50,000 from the Virginia Brownfields Restoration and Economic Redevelopment Assistance Fund and Staunton's City Council has pledged $25,000 in storm-water utility funds towards design work for the project.

The goal of the project is to strengthen Staunton's green infrastructure, improve the water quality of Peyton Creek, encourage desirable redevelopment, provide scenic areas and conserve natural resources.
