Street Closures and Safety Tips for New Year's Eve in Harrisonburg

Harrisonburg Police encourage safe and sober driving on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Police want to remind party goers to celebrate responsibly by calling a friend or cab to drive you if you've been drinking alcohol, celebrate with people you trust, watch out for pedestrians if you are the designated driver, don't leave a celebration with an unknown person and call police immediately if you see any suspicious activity.

There will also be street closures in downtown Harrisonburg on Dec. 31.

Here is a list of the closed streets for the 5K race between noon and 5 p.m.:

Main Street from Cantrell to Gay streets
Liberty Street from Gay to Grattan streets (only one lane closed)

Street closures for First Night from 5 p.m. until the event ends:

Main Street from Paul to Elizabeth streets
Elizabeth Street from Liberty to Franklin streets.
