AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va -- Students at Stuarts Draft High School won a statewide award for their efforts to wear a seat belt. Students and teachers worked on displays to promote safe driving and the importance of wearing a seat belt. They also worked with Valley businesses to get out their message.
This is the third year the school has won this competition. It was part of the “Save Your Tail-Gate Buckle Up” campaign.
One participant said he hoped their effort would make a difference.
“It helps out the student body a lot, because it gets out the information on why seat belts and drinking and driving and texting while driving are dangerous. Hopefully, that'll stop someone from doing those actions,” said CJ Booth, a Stuarts Draft High School senior.
The school gets a free tailgate party before a football game for winning the competition.
The Save Your Tailgate campaign is sponsored by Youth of Virginia Speak Out about Traffic Safety.
