STAUNTON -- WHSV's effort to "Stuff the Bus" for valley kids continued Saturday.

Good neighbors at the Walmart in Staunton were helping kids in need by stuffing the bus with school supplies.

The campaign started Friday, collecting school supplies like pencils, paper and backpacks. The supplies will go to families in the valley who may not be able to afford what their kids need for school.

Barbara Maclam teaches at McSwain Elementary. She said she is volunteering because she recognizes the need. She said helping with something as simple as school supplies can make a lasting impact by sending an important message to kids, people do care.

"I often see kids who don't have some of the bare necessities they need to succeed with their education," she said. "I hope they realize all the good there is in the world, and that people do care about them getting a good education and getting a good start in life so that they'll have a good future."
