HARRISONBURG -- A task force put together for naming a street or bridge after Martin Luther King Jr. made its presentation to the Harrisonburg City Council.
The task force suggested that all of Cantrell Avenue be renamed Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The task force argues that there needs to be something to honor the civil rights leader. The group feels that Cantrell has no special meaning to the city.
"It demonstrates the city's commitment to intergration. It annouces the cty's support for all of it's citizens, and it opens possiblilites for dialouge on other social and economic issues," said Martin Luther King Jr. task force member, Dr. Steve Reich.
Supporters were out for the presentation. There will be a public hearing on renaming something after Dr. King at the next city council meeting on July 9.
