Now that Christmas is over, you've probably already tossed out all of those boxes and wrapping paper, so you can enjoy your gifts.

Before you put those boxes of trash on the street, you may want to think twice. That's because thieves could be watching and waiting.

They could be looking for those flat screen TV, computer or any other expensive item that came in a box that's now sitting in front of your home.

Police officers offer some good tips on how you can protect yourself.

Anything you can do to prevent individuals that may want to do some unlawful act at your home... Like breaking down your boxes or not having things out there projecting what you have inside your home that someone may want to steal," said Sgt. C.W. Baugher of the Waynesboro Police Department.

Another suggestion would be to break down the boxes and put them in garbage bags.
