Toughest Meals in the Valley Round 2: Boardwalk Cafe

The Boardwalk Cafe is popular for its hot dogs, with 50 different types in total.

Steve Pittella, the owner of Boardwalk Cafe, is originally from Brooklyn. He says the menu has evolved over time.

"The whole place started when I couldn't find my NY-style hot dog in the area. Had twelve, people kept coming in saying 'you don't have the hot dog I grew up with' and the list kept growing and growing,” said Pittella.

The vast menu led to some costumers trying different types of hot dogs in one visit.

"People amazed us. Someone came in and ate three. I thought that was amazing. Then someone did five. So when you gave me a call and put out the challenge, I figured 'here you go!"

The current Boardwalk record is held by Logan. He ate seven quarter-pound hot dogs. That means I have to eat eight.

The first one up was the Virginia Classic. It comes with chili, cheese and diced onions.

Since chili dogs are my all-time favorite, it only took me about two minutes to finish it.

Next up was the Peoria, Illinois dog. It was a more simple one with tomato slices and ketchup.

The tomato slices provided a nice cool touch, which was perfect after the chili. Another two minutes and I was finished.

Then came the Connecticut Dog with sauerkraut, bacon, diced onions, relish, ketchup and mustard.

The two other hot dogs were filling me up, and with all the toppings on this one, I was starting to feel a little sick. After three minutes, I was through.

The Western Plain dog was number four. It came with mustard, onions, ketchup and relish.

The pain was definitely setting in after eating one pound of beef.

Number five, known as the Walla Walla Washington, would be my downfall. Known as the Onion Lover, it came with sweet tomato onion sauce, diced onions and french-fried onions.

After one bite, I had to stop. In total, I ate four hot dogs and one bite.

If you want to try the Boardwalk Cafe, you can visit the restaurant at 2556 Jefferson Highway in Waynesboro.
