CRAIGSVILLE, Va. -- The Mayor of Craigsville says the only bank in town moved out a few weeks ago, leaving the town with no bank in close proximity.

"It makes it very hard on the elderly people, trying to do their banking each month and just makes it tough on the whole community," said Richard Fox, who is the Mayor of Craigsville.

Fox said this is the first time that the town has been without a bank since he was a child.

He was told it's all apart of BB&T's efforts to consolidate its branches.

The closest bank is nearly 35 miles in either direction of the town.

Fox said he has asked 9 different banks to open a branch in the area.

So far, none has been able to grant his request.
