STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- Virginia Department of Transportation crews across the state are doing what they can to keep roads safe.

Crews have treated interstates and primary roads with salt brine or anti-icing materials. VDOT recommends preparing your car for weather conditions, which includes having an emergency kit in hand.

VDOT also recommends that drivers pay attention to bridges and shady areas because those freeze first.

Crews will be working through the weekend and have prepared chain saws and emergency generators.
