More people are finding work in Augusta County, but 5.1 percent are still unemployed. That equals to a little more than 2,000 people.
Some of them have been taking advantage of the resources at the Virginia Employment Commission in Augusta County.
VEC manager Michelle Burnett says there has been a steady flow of people coming through the doors.
She says her number one goal is to get people back to work.
That's why workers offer help with updating resumes, interviewing skills and more.
Burnett says the way people look for work has changed over the years.
"Sometimes we are working with the mature workforce. If you think about it, if you didn't have to look for employment in 20 years, the way that you look for work has really changed," she said.
Burnett says workers show them how to use online applications and how to register at different sites that offer job openings.
"The paper trail has gone away in the last 5 to 10 years, so it's kind of a new concept of not just knocking on the doors, but also looking on line and fill out the application," said Burnett.
Burnett says the VEC also offers free workshops every Wednesday at the Augusta County Library from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
