WAYNESBORO -- Vandals struck two Waynesboro city parks, causing $500 worth of damage.

Two bathrooms at the North Park picnic pavilion were vandalized. According to Waynesboro Police, someone removed a urinal from the wall, broke toilet paper dispensers and removed pipes from the fixtures. Police also said garbage cans were turned over, and there was a small fire.

Sergeant Brian Edwards of Waynesboro Police said this is the kind of pointless crime that impacts everyone at the park.

"That just makes it inconvenient for everyone, because it's going to take that much time before it's ready to go again," Edwards said. "So people are going to have to find other places to use the facilities."

An employee with Waynesboro Parks and Recreation also found overturned garbage cans and park benches at Constitution Park, but no significant damage was done there.

If you have any information that could lead to an arrest, Waynesboro Police asks you to call them at (540) 942-6675.
