HARRISONBURG, Va. -- A family friendly New Year's Eve celebration is just around the corner, but volunteers are needed to make sure First Night happens without complications.
Volunteer Coordinator Roberta Fernandez said they still need about 50 more volunteers.
Two years ago, First Night was canceled because there weren't enough people to help. Fernandez said the event isn't at risk this year, but volunteering is a good way to get involved and give back to the community.
"These are hard economic times and for a lot of people they don't have money for entertainment. This is a time to come together, to see your neighbors, maybe people you don't normally see," said Fernandez.
She said volunteers will only work for about three hours and they will get into the event for free.
