Voters to Receive Absentee Ballots for Virginia's Presidential Primary

Absentee ballots are getting ready to go out to voters in Virginia.

The State Board of Elections have met the requirement to send absentee ballots to all voters, including overseas and military voters, 46 days in advance of the presidential primary.

Voters head to the polls on March 6th.

Ron Paul and Governor Mitt Romney will be the two candidates on the primary ballot.

Write-in votes are not permitted for primaries in Virginia.

“Meeting this deadline in light of the recent ballot access litigation is a testament to the work ethic and “can do” attitude of the local elections community. While we have met this deadline, we want to also make sure overseas and military voters know they still have time to apply to vote absentee in March’s Presidential Primary,” said Donald L. Palmer, Secretary of the Virginia State Board of Elections.

Voters will not be required to sign a "loyalty" oath or pledge indicating their intent to support the nominee of the Republican Party for president.

This week, the Republican Party requested, and the SBE Secretary accepted under authority from the State Board, a recession of the request to administer the primary with the loyalty oath.

SBE encourages all registered voters to check their local polling place location at SBE’s website (www.SBE.virginia.gov) before voting on March 6.

If overseas and military voters want an application to vote absentee, find out if they are currently registered to vote in Virginia, or determine the location of their polling place, they should visit the Virginia State Board of Elections web site at www.SBE.virginia.gov or call toll-free at 1-800-552-9745.

They may also contact their local voter registrar’s office.
