Waynesboro Police Arrest Woman For Embezzlement

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) -- The Waynesboro Police Department has arrested a Waynesboro woman on one felony count of embezzlement.

Hurley Elizabeth Brahmabhatt, 35, is accused of providing merchandise and cigarettes to friends and acquaintances over a two and half month period while she was a cashier at the Kroger at 245 Arch Avenue.

Beginning in mid-July to late September, Brahmabhatt would slip the goods to individuals she knew as they came through her check-out line and also received some of the goods herself, according to police.

The amount of stolen cigarettes is estimated at $1,210.

The amount on the other merchandise has not yet been determined.

Brahmabhatt is being held at Middle River Regional Jail on a $2,500 bond.
