WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) -- Tuesday night's meth bust was the third in Waynesboro this year.

Sgt. Brian Edwards with the Waynesboro Police Department said officers have been more aggressive in tracking down meth labs in the city this year.

Edwards said in the past two or three years Waynesboro has had maybe one meth lab bust.

The three this year have all been during a six month period, with the first being in March.

Wednesday morning the scene was very quiet, but it was a different story Tuesday night on Sherwood Ave. when a S.W.A.T team raided the house.

Edwards said these investigations are put together through a variety of ways, including informants, who are sometimes paid, surveillance and anonymous tips.

Edwards said the city has also assigned more officers to these kinds of cases.

"We knew that people were using meth, and we knew that it was being manufactured in the city, but we had no idea where it was. We've been able to really take a much more aggressive approach to it," said Edwards.

The three houses were so dangerous after the busts, Virginia State Police have had be called to remove the dangerous substances.

To do that, Edwards said it will cost about $10,000 for the three houses, money that will be billed to the city and tax payers.
